Introduction
Innovation often emerges at the crossroads of cutting-edge technology and untapped potential. That’s precisely where we have found our stride—revolutionizing the automotive industry, one dealership at a time. With Toma’s pioneering AI solutions and the unmatched talent pool from the University of Waterloo, we’re proud to announce the Waterloo x Toma Program. This initiative aims to give some of Canada’s brightest engineering and business minds a real-world playground to shape the future of AI in automotive.
About Us
We are building AI employees for the automotive industry, starting with car dealerships. By automating and enhancing critical functions like customer interaction, lead generation, and service advisory, the Toma platform ensures dealerships can offer a frictionless experience to their customers—driving both revenue and customer satisfaction.
Why Automotive?
- Massive Market Opportunity: Car dealerships remain a cornerstone of the global automotive market, yet much of their workflow is still manual and time-consuming.
- Immediate Impact: AI-powered solutions can quickly transform how dealerships operate—improving responsiveness, reducing costs, and boosting revenue.
History & Growth
Founded by Monik Pamecha and Anthony Krivonos, Toma has rapidly gained momentum and garnered support from high-profile industry leaders. Among them is Car Dealership Guy, a prominent figure known for spearheading innovation in the automotive retail space.
- Exponential Word-of-Mouth: Toma has catapulted to nearly $1M ARR through referrals in less than a year.
- Automotive Backing: The roster of Toma’s investors and advisors reads like a who’s-who of automotive. Their deep involvement ensures Toma has the domain expertise and resources needed to keep innovating.
- Scalability: With robust financials, Toma is well-positioned to take its model to new dealership groups nationwide—and beyond.
The Product: AI Receptionists & Service Advisors
Toma’s flagship solutions—AI receptionists and service department advisors—address two of the most critical touchpoints in a dealership’s operations:
- AI Receptionists: Automate customer greetings, schedule test drives, handle inquiries, and route calls—freeing human teams to focus on high-value tasks.
- AI Service Advisors: Handle service appointment scheduling, estimate generation, and maintenance recommendations. Given that the service department often accounts for over 50% of a dealership’s gross profit, these AI-driven enhancements can significantly lift a dealership’s bottom line.
With a proven, profitable model and a client pipeline eager to jump on board, Toma’s sights are set on achieving a 20x expansion of its customer base by 2025.
What to Expect from the Program
- Two Tracks, One Merit-Based Path
- At Toma, you can join us either as a part-time or a full-time employee but the path is entirely merit-based. We don’t care about your grades, age, or traditional experience. Pass an assessment to demonstrate your skills, and you’ll receive a part-time offer. From there, you’ll take on weekly tickets that tackle real-world challenges in our AI product suite. High-performing part-timers are fast-tracked for full-time offers, ensuring you have a clear, accelerated route into the heart of our operations.
- Hands-On Projects
Students (part-time) will be integrated into Toma’s product teams, working on core features of the AI receptionists and service advisors. Expect to tackle tasks like natural language processing, machine learning model optimization, and user experience design. - Mentorship & Community
Each Waterloo student will have access to Toma’s engineering leads and product managers—many of whom have deep expertise in AI, automotive, and startup operations. Beyond the day-to-day work, Toma fosters a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and rapid iteration. - Meaningful Impact
Unlike at a large corporation, part-time at Toma won’t be stuck on “grunt work.” Each project is mapped to a critical part of Toma’s growth strategy, allowing co-op students to see their efforts directly influence our expansion and bottom line. - Pathway to Full-Time
High-performers can seamlessly convert to full-time roles—either in Canada (through our local employer-of-record setup) or in the U.S. at our San Francisco headquarters.
